Here’s what NYC Googled the most in 2019

Have you ever been curious as to what the most Googled thing in NYC is? You’re in luck because Google shared it’s Google’s “Year in Search,” which looks at what everyone has searched for throughout the year. 

To determine the 2019 “Year in Search,” Google looked at the trillions of search queries over the year. Google said that these aren’t the most searched for topics by the number of searches because those don’t often change from year-to-year. They looked at trending queries that had a high spike in traffic over a period of time from 2018 to 2019 and put together a list of the top 10 trends per city. 

Google shared with Metro the top trending words for New York City: 

Nipsey Hussle 

Jussie Smollett

Game of Thrones 

Cameron Boyce

Luke Perry 

Antonio Brown

Avengers Endgame 

Disney plus 

iPhone 11 

Notre Dame

New York City and the United States shared some common themes, such as Nipsey Hussle. Jussie Smollett, Game of Thrones, Cameron Boyce, Luke Perry, Antonio Brown, Avengers Endgame, Disney plus, and iPhone 11. 

In fact, the only trend that New York City did not share on the national level was Notre Dame. Nationally, the final trend that did not show up for New Yorkers was Hurricane Dorian. 

The number one search in New York City was Nipsey Hussle, which ranked as third most searched for the topic in the country overall. Nipsey Hussle died earlier this after a shooting incident in a clothing store that he owned. Hussle was a rapper, businessman and was involved in other ventures.

He was shot the day before he was supposed to be meeting with LA Police Commissioner Steve Soboroff and LAPD Chief Michael Moore to discuss how to help stop gang violence.
