Is this the biggest effort to crack down on bars since you've been at L&I?

This is very proactive. We’ve been more proactive now than I can remember. The mayor had asked us to move over to the police department last August. It has worked tremendously well. We’re able to get cooperation a lot quicker.

You don't carry a gun, but there are some real hairy moments busting into bars in the early morning, right?

We wear [bulletproof] vests. And whenever we go in to a bar or a nightclub or a speakeasy, I'm sure to be behind someone armed.

Do you hit bars and neighborhoods randomly?

When we’re working [Operation] Pressure Point itself, we’ll follow whatever direction that project is on. Complaints could be from anywhere, Society Hill, North Philly, Northeast.
