Bank your friend? Don’t fool yourself
Is your bank acting like your new best friend? Calling and writing about how they need to protect you — for a fee — in case you overdraw your account? Don’t buy it.

Canadian pols eat seal to make point to Europe
Canadian parliamentarians dug into a meal of seal meat yesterday to defy both animal right activists and the European Union, which has banned imports of seal products.

Is nothing in her life real anymore?
When we first read that Heidi Pratt was firing husband Spencer Pratt as her manager, we thought, “Yay! Heidi’s new face is finally doing something right!” But then we found out that although she did fire Spencer, it seems like she’s replacing him with psychic Aiden Chase to take the reigns on her “career” — and then we got scared.

The mistrial minstrel show fails to balance
Clearly John Kander and the late Fred Ebb, creators of musical classics such as “Cabaret” and “Chicago,” knew how to spin cynicism into theatrical gold. And that talent is very much in evidence in “The Scottsboro Boys” at the Vineyard Theatre, which combines hard-boiled skepticism with tuneful razzle-dazzle to often entertaining effect.  Yet despite its clever story-telling, “Scottsboro” fails to find its balance. It should take your breath away but barely elicits a sigh.

NORTH PHILADELPHIA. Like every shop in the city that sells chicken wings, business was booming inside the Wing Stop on North Broad Street yesterday afternoon.

But unlike the rest, the workers there were doing more than just shipping out orders of hot wings. They were also getting ready to watch their boss play in last night's Super Bowl.

More than 1,500 wings were sold by 3:30 p.m. and the calls began pouring in as it got closer to gametime at the store opened in December 2008 by Indianapolis Colts' defensive end Raheem Brock, a Temple University alum and 1997 Dobbins High School graduate.

There isn't any indication on the walls that Brock, 30, owns the store. But employees say Brock keeps an eye on his short-order restaurant.

"When he's home, he comes through," manager Saeed Dotson said as he oversaw orders passed from the register to the kitchen. Dotson, like most of the workers, have been at the store since its inception a little over a year ago. His cousin went to Dobbins with Brock, he said.

Brock also owns a Wing Stop at Red Lion and the Boulevard, Dotson said.

Growing, despite the Star

Don’t hold it against Brock, but the chain eatery specializing in buffalo wings is the “Official Wings of the Dallas Cowboys,”according to the company’s Web site. Nevertheless, Brock may not be done expanding his wing business in Philadelphia.
“He was planning on opening another [Wing Stop] at 52nd and Jefferson streets, but business hasn’t been as good yet on Roosevelt Boulevard,” Dotson said.
