PHILADELPHIA. Mayor Michael Nutter and Superintendent Arlene Ackerman touted improvements in the graduation rate and test scores yesterday in the first year of the School District of Philadelphia’s five-year comprehensive plan.
The next major component begins in the upcoming year in 13 struggling schools called “Renaissance Schools.”
Highlights from the 2009-10 academic year:
More than 12,000 enrolled in the district’s Parent University.
More than 50 percent of students are state standards in reading and math for the first time
