The MTA’s board yesterday voted to cut 210 more station agents and close 86 booths.
Stations where agents are to be removed will have working intercoms, said MTA Chairman Jay Walder. But some riders said intercoms can’t replace a person.
“It’s necessary to have a physical presence,” said rider Leila Dickinson, at the 33rd Street stop on the 6, where the booth on the downtown platform will be closed.
Officials said they plan to install new, high-tech intercoms (as seen in rendering to the left) to replace the current, often-faulty devices.
The MTA will start shuttering the station agent booths in August.
