10 NYC companies make Glassdoor’s ‘50 Best Places to Work’ list

If finding a new job is part of your 2017 resolutions, you might want to consider applying to one of these New York companies.

Recruiting and review site Glassdoor just released its “50 Best Places to Work” ranking, and 10 companies based in the greater New York area made the cut.

Internet technology company Greenhouse Software topped Glassdoor’s small- and medium-sized list, which also included five other city-based employers. Four of those companies were in the Top 20.

A New York company first appears on the large companies list at No. 11. Boston-based consulting firm Bain & Company ranked first, with Facebook and Boston Consulting Group rounding out the Top 3.

Glassdoor’s ranking consisted exclusively of employee feedback. More than 2.1 million reviews were submitted during the ranking period, which began Nov. 2, 2015, and ended on Oct. 30 of this year.

Employees were asked to grade their satisfaction with their employer, its CEO, the pros and cons of working for the company and other career attributes such as available opportunities, benefits, salary, culture, work-life balance and more.

Here is a breakdown of the companies from the New York metro region that made the 2017 list, along with an employee comment on what it’s like to work there.

LARGE COMPANIES

No. 11 — McKinsey & Company

The management consulting firm has the “smartest people, best projects, truly incredible internal support staff. McKinsey is defined by a set of values, not a book of rules,” an employee said.

No. 22 — Memorial Sloan Kettering

“Very intelligent, friendly and team-oriented group of people. I love working for MSK. There is a great sense of pride and responsibility to our patients and ensuring things get done right,” a staffer said of the cancer center.

No. 26 — Johnson & Johnson

According to a process excellence employee, the biotech and pharmaceuticals company “fosters a great teamwork atmosphere and allows for plenty of growth opportunities. Working here provides me with a sense of security and pride that what I do here impacts our customers.”

No. 41 — BASF Corporation

The manufacturer “values its employee’s well-being (and) great benefits, marketplace discounts, global presence allows for more opportunities to grow your career,” a lab manager wrote.

SMALL- & MEDIUM-SIZED COMPANIES

No. 1 — Greenhouse Software

“There’s a positive buzz in the office knowing that each person is impacting growth, and everyone plays an active role in building a company worth working for,” a sales employee said of the top-ranking internet technology company.

No. 5 — SeatGeek

The ticket search engine is a “really smart crowd. Fun product. Great culture. Extremely transparent. Exciting prospects for the company’s future,” a software engineer said.

No. 12 — Justworks

“Justworks is the definition of a meritocracy —hard work is always recognized. There are major growth opportunities at this organization,” a sales development staffer said of the human resources and payroll management provider.

No. 14 — Novus Partners

A senior systems engineer at the financial services company said that “the quality of people and work environment between teams is incredible. Working with great minds and motivated teams to drive product forward based on passion and strategy is extremely exhilarating and inspiring.”

No. 15 — Kepler Group

“I continue to be impressed by the innovative thinking and dedication of every single employee. I feel innately pushed to perform my best, and it has made me a more strategic thinker as a result,” a senior analyst at the digital and database service provider wrote.

No. 21 — InVision

An app principal engineer described the design collaboration platform as “challenging and engaging work. An amazing team. Tech management listens and are easy to approach.”
