In recent years, New York City has become one of the most attractive markets and incubators for startups, a point that is further proven in the 2018 LinkedIn Top Startups list.
Released Thursday, the LinkedIn Top Startups list ranks the 50 startups that are most sought-after by the more than 575 million professionals who use the networking platform.
While San Francisco-based Lyft occupies the top spot this year, 13 of the 50 companies on the LinkedIn list are from right here in New York City.
“What was most surprising about this year’s list is the fact that it’s not all about tech. Cosmetics, food, apparel and hospitality companies dominate nearly half the list,” Laura Lorenzetti, senior news editor for special projects at LinkedIn, told Metro. “New York companies especially are making a play at consumer-driven businesses such as Glossier (No. 8), Away (No. 30) and The Wing (No. 36).”
Another trend seen on this year’s LinkedIn Top Startups list is the growth of companies focused on blockchain or cryptocurrency, such as digital wallet Coinbase, which ranked third, or enterprise Axoni, a New York-based business that came in at No. 47.
