5 NCAA Tournament games to watch on Day 2 (Friday March Madness)

1) No. 7 Michigan vs. No. 10 Oklahoma State at 12:15 p.m. on CBS in Indianapolis

Before last week, this matchup of two mostly under-performing Power Five conference teams would not have deserved much attention. However, that all changed as the Wolverines’ (24-11) chartered plane skidded off the runway when they were en-route to the Big Ten Tournament in Brooklyn (yes grandpa, you read that right). The Wolverines played their first game vs. Illinois in their practice jerseys and from there, they won four games in four days to capture an unlikely Big Ten title. The Big Blue are one of the most bandwagon teams in college sports so it’s not like they need additional fans but it feels like everyone will be rooting for them against the Cowboys (20-12).

2) No. 3 Oregon vs. No. 14 Iona at 2 p.m. on TBS in Sacramento

If you are a fan of points in a college basketball game, which is far from a given these days, you’ll want to check out this one (gambling hint: take the over). The Ducks (29-5) and Gaels (22-12) can both fill it up as they say. Before center Chris Boucher tore his ACL in the Pac 12 Tournament, Oregon was viewed by many as a national title contender. They could still make a run in the NCAA Tournament but it will be hard without their long shot-blocker. The Ducks do have junior small forward Dillon Brooks (16.3 points per game) though who is probably the most clutch player in the country.

3) No. 6 Creighton vs. No. 11 Rhode Island at 4:30 p.m. on TBS in Sacramento

The Rams (24-9) are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1999 and they are a popular upset pick since they won the Atlantic 10 Tournament and come in riding an eight-game win streak. Head coach Dan Hurley’s team is led by high-scoring point guard E.C. Matthews (14.9 points per game). The Blue Jays (25-9) lost to Villanova (31-3) in the Big East championship game and their former point guard Maurice Watson Jr. was felled by a torn ACL during the regular season, otherwise they’d be seeded even higher.

4) No. 7 Dayton vs. No. 10 Wichita State at 7:10 p.m. on CBS in Indianapolis

No team has a more legitimate beef with the NCAA Tournament committee than the Shockers (30-4), since year after year they get terrible draws (both in terms of seeding and potential opponents). Las Vegas knows it is a joke since the Flyers (24-7) are a whopping six-point underdog in this matchup. The winner will likely face No. 2 seed Kentucky (29-5) in the Round of 32, some reward for another stellar season by the Missouri Valley champions.

5) No. 3 UCLA vs. No. 14 Kent State at 9:57 p.m. on TruTV in Sacramento

Putting aside all of the insane verbal diarrhea constantly coming from his overbearing father (Lavar Ball), Bruins (29-4) point guard Lonzo Ball (14.6 points per game, 7.7 assists per game and 6.1 rebounds per game) is a special kind of talent that could both lead UCLA to an NCAA championship in his freshman season and then be the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft this June (by the Celtics?).
