“Game of Thrones” has always been known for scoring big-name guest stars. Including when English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran appeared as Lannister soldier in the premiere of the seventh season.
So what other famous musicians have taken part in the HBO series? We’ve rounded them up — all seven of them.
Dr. Feelgood
English guitarist and songwriter Wilko Johnson a.k.a. John Wilkinson, best known for being a member of the band Dr. Feelgood, initially appeared as a guest star in the first season of “Thrones” as Ser Ilyn Payne. Johnson returned to the role as Payne, a mute royal executioner to Robert Baratheon and his successor Joffrey, for the second season. And yep — he was the one who killed Ned Stark for treason on Joffrey’s orders.
Snow Patrol
Northern Irish/Scottish rock band’s lead singer Gary Lightbody showed off his vocals as one of the Bolton soldiers, singing “The Bear and the Maiden Fair” while transporting the captive Brienne and Jaime to Harrenhal.
Coldplay
The British rock band’s drummer and backing vocalist Will Champion made an appearance in the third season of “Thrones” during the Red wedding. Naturally, he played one of the musicians/assassins hired by Lothar Fre for the very bloody massacre.
Sigur Rós
The Icelandic post-rock band appeared at Joffrey’s wedding to Margaery Tyrell. They performed “The Rains of Castamere,” considered by many fans to be the series’ most iconic song.
Of Monsters and Men
The full lineup of indie folk/rock band from Iceland appeared in the sixth season of Game of Thrones. They acted as stage musicians performing accompaniment for the theatrical play that Arya sees in Braavos, based on the events of the War of the Five Kings in Westeros.
Ed Sheeran
The English singer-songwriter appeared in the first episode of the seventh season, portraying a Lannister soldier with a talent for singing. Fun fact: Sheeran’s participation was organized as a surprise for Maisie Williams, who plays Arya.
Bastille
There’s a rumor going around that the British indie band will make an appearance in this season as Wildlings in a battle scene of the final episode. Watchers on the Wall, a fan favorite site, was the first to report the news. And though it hasn’t officially been confirmed, front man Dan Smith told Vogue that the group was scheduled to visit series’ set earlier this year.
