9/11 robbery planned by Bronx trio wearing Muslim garb carrying fake bomb: Reports

On the 15th anniversary of the attacks on September 11, a Bronx man and his two friends planned to dress in Muslim attire, wield a fake bomb and rob a check cashing establishment in the Unionport, a new complaint alleges.

Juneal”Indian”Ali, 29,was arrested after one of his to-be accomplices turned him in to federal authorities, New York Daily News reported.

The robbery of David’s Check Cashing at 1998 Bruckner Boulevard,which was planned the night before, was to take place on Sunday, but there were“too many people around,” according to the complaint.

The trio decided to try again on Tuesday, but one of the co-conspirators had a change of heart, walked into42nd Precinct stationhouse and told police all about the plot, Daily News reported.

Ali, the alleged mastermind,was arrested around 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday as he arrived to pick up his turncoat friend, the New York Post reported. Dark robes, given to Ali by his mom, and what appeared to be an explosive device was found in the trunk of his car, police said.

The hoax bomb was“actually made of several sticks of road flares bundles together with a voltage meter,” according to the complaint.

Ali was charged withinterference with commerce by threat or violence in Manhattan Federal Court on Wednesday and is being held without bail.No word on any charges for the two accomplices.
