Alison Brie may play a singleminded singleton hell-bent on finding the perfect husband in “How to Be Single,” but it’s a far cry from her own approach to matrimony — until recent developments in her personal life, that is.

“I’ve never really wanted to get married, so it was not something that I was ever stressed out about. It was not a priority for me,” she says. “The guys were always kind of around because I didn’t care about them so much. I’ve not had trouble dating, it’s just marriage was never a priority for me, and I may have just been fine never getting married except that, you know, I fell madly in love and then thought, ‘Oh, I guess I could be married to you.'”

That falling madly in love happened with Dave Franco, her fiance and the younger brother of James Franco. And happily, their courtship and relationship bear little resemblance to the hell Brie’s character puts herself through in the film, which sees her testing out an algorithm she devised to game the online dating system.

“We did not meet online. I’ve never done online dating,” she says. So was it at a bar, then? “Not quite, but it’s pretty close. We met at a restaurant, through a mutual friend, in New Orleans at Mardi Gras. At that time I consider the whole city a bar, so sort of.”

Brie admits she felt like Franco was the one pretty soon after getting together — by her standards, at least. “There was a semi-immediate click. Probably about a year into our relationship I was like, ‘Oh wow, this thing I thought I maybe never would do, I could definitely see myself doing it with you,'” she says of opening up to the idea of marriage. “And it felt super-easy and natural, and I think that’s probably how it should feel.”

Before Brie and Franco can tie the knot, though, they’re getting some on-the-job time in together. Up next, the appear in “The Disaster Artist,” the retelling of the making of “The Room,” Tommy Wiseau’s infamously terrible film. They just finished shooting it, with Dave playing Greg Sestero, the poor guy who got roped into Wiseau’s plan. Dave’s brother James, who also directed, plays the other role, with Brie as his girlfriend.

“I just have never felt more comfortable on a set. The kissing scenes went great,” she says. Not that she’s an expert. “I’ve only seen ‘The Room’ one time. It’s about the making of the worst movie ever made.”
