It has been quite a hectic couple of months behind the scenes with the Star Wars franchise. Earlier this summer it was spectacularly revealed that Phil Lord and Christopher Miller had left the Han Solo film midway through its production, with the pair replaced by Ron Howard.
But it wasn’t just the upcoming spin-off that suffered a behind the scenes reshuffle, as last month it was confirmed that J.J. Abrams would be replacing Colin Trevorrow on “Star Wars: Episode IX,” too.
I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Andy Serkis, who will play Emperor Snoke in “The Last Jedi,” to discuss his directorial debut “Breathe.” During our chat I asked for his thoughts on the departures of Trevorrow and Lord & Miller.
“Everyone wants to make the best film, and sometimes, for some reason, it just doesn’t work out. And sometimes it is creative differences. I don’t really know too much about that situation, other than it was an agreeable parting.”
Of course, Serkis has worked in tandem with Abrams before, as the filmmaker oversaw 2015’s “The Force Awakens.” The English actor’s Emperor Snoke only appeared briefly in “The Force Awakens,” though, but that didn’t stop Serkis from revealing just how “thrilled” he is that Abrams is back involved with the franchise.
“I haven’t had a chance to speak to him. Because of life. [But] I am so thrilled for him.”
The most recent trailer for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” gave us our best look yet at Emperor Snoke, and his extended presence in the clip made it look as though he will be much more prominent in the film. We only have a couple more weeks until we find out just how much Snoke is actually in “The Last Jedi.”
