Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders brought some unlikely evidence to the Senate floor Wednesday: a giant printout of a tweet by Donald Trump.
Though the two are known for rarely ever seeing eye to eye, during discussions on the future of the Affordable Care Act, — Obamacare — Sanders’ best argument against cuts to Medicaid and Medicare came from none other than the president-elect himself. Trump’sMay 2015 tweet promised to protect the social services programs.
Here’s the tweet:
I was the first & only potential GOP candidate to state there will be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid. Huckabee copied me.

Sanders slammed Republicans for trying to gut the Affordable Care Act without introducing another plan during his afternoon address.
Sanders said Republicans’ actions proved Trump was right in his assumption that he is the only GOP candidate to protect Medicare and Medicaid. Sanders added he hopes Trump will “tell the American people he will veto any proposal that cuts Medicare, that cuts Medicaid and that cuts social security.”
