New York Fashion Week 2018 ended Wednesday after a week filled with memorable moments both off and on the runway. While some designers featured their pieces in June, others like Carolina Herrera, Sally Lapointe and Coach graced the runway this week with their designs. Some of NYFW’s all-stars also returned for another year including Marc Jacobs, Oscar De LaRenta, Jason Wu and Tory Burch. Many of these designers have a busy September ahead of them following NYFW. London, Milan and Paris’ fashion week are scheduled for the next three weeks. The weather may have been dreary this year but the shows heated up, here are some of the highlights from New York Fashion Week 2018.
Nicki Minaj and Cardi B’s fight at New York Fashion Week 2018
Nicki Minaj and Cardi B were involved in a public fight at Haper’s Bazaar Icons party. The incident involved Cardi B throwing her shoe at the Chun-Li singer. The fight ignited when Cardi B became enraged at Minaj for allegedly talking badly about her daughter Kulture. Minaj said on her Beats 1 radio show Monday that she “would never discuss anyone’s child.”
Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty experience at New York Fashion Week 2018
Rihanna’s long-awaited all-inclusive lingerie collection arrived Wednesday night at NYFW in Brooklyn. According to the Associated Press, sizes range up to 44DD in bras and 3XL in apparel. The merchandise was not the only inclusive aspect of the show; Savage x Fenty featured models of all shapes and sizes including two pregnant models and the Hadid sisters.
Kate Spade’s tribute at New York Fashion Week 2018
The legendary designer tragically passed away in June, and her brand paid tribute to her in true Kate Spade fashion. The brand in the past showcased NYFW in presentation style, this year was the first time that the collection was featured on the runway. A notecard was placed on every seat reading “She left a little sparkle everywhere she went,” an homage to one of Spade’s most memorable quotes, “She leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes.” The back of the card read “In loving memory, 1962-2018”. The runway was also decorated in bright pink with silver glitter.
Chromat’s statement collection at New York Fashion Week 2018
The NY based clothing line launched their Saturation collection inspired by wet t-shirts “to reclaim the experience of hiding under a giant T-shirt at a pool party and make it a garment to wear proudly.” Plus-sized model Sonny Turner stood out wearing a “Sample Size” t-shirt, and her pictures from the show went viral.
Madeline Stuart stuns New York Fashion Week 2018
The 21-year old beauty is the first model with Down syndrome to ever walk the runway, in five different shows to be exact. Stuart also has her fashion label 21 Reasons Why. The collection featuring bright jumpsuits, flirty crop tops, and high-waisted pants had their third show this year at NYFW.
