Boston-area police investigate explicit online photos of high schoolers

Authorities are investigating a Dropbox page that allegedly contained nude and partially nude photographs of female Duxbury High School students.

On Thursday, Duxbury police and school officials said that the photos had been removed but authorities were focusing on uncovering how the images got online, the Patriot Ledger reported.

“It appears this is juveniles victimizing juveniles and not knowing the long-term consequences of what they’ve done,” Police Chief Matthew Clancy was quoted by the Patriot Ledger. “There are some young people here who are very embarrassed and very upset. They are victims.”

Authorities and school officials have notified Duxbury parents of those students who were pictured on the file-sharing site, WHDHreported. So far, no charges have been filed.

“The police have also been working with Dropbox to determine who created this file,” a statement from Duxbury Public Schools Superintendent Ben Tantillo was quoted by WHDH. “This issue is now in the hands of the police who will communicate their findings to the school district once their investigation is complete.”

Superintendent Tantillo and Chief Clancy said to the Patriot Ledger that issues surrounding teenagers sharing inappropriate photos digitally have been appearing nationwide.

“We’ve got all hands on deck,” Clancy said in the Patriot Ledger. “I don’t anticipate wholesale charges, but lots of conversations with lots of families.”
