Boston Marathon bombing survivor dies in car accident overseas

Two Northeastern University students, including a Boston Marathon bombing survivor, died in a car accident while traveling overseas, reports said.

Victoria McGrath, the Marathon survivor, was killed along with Priscilla Perez Torres in the crash in an undisclosed country overseas,NECN reported.

“Northeastern University has confirmed that two undergraduate students have been tragically killed in a car accident overseas,” Northeastern wrote in a statement. “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Victoria McGrath and Priscilla Perez Torres in this extremely difficult time.”

Victoria McGrath, who was 20 years old at the time, was reportedly injured during the Boston Marathon bombing and suffered nerve damage that required physical therapy.

“I was literally five feet away from where the first bomb went off,” McGrath told the Today show in an interview. “I don’t know how you can put a bomb there and look at the people around and know that you’re going to kill them. I don’t understand it.”

Boston firefighter James Plourde carried McGrath to a medical tent after the blasts. The image was one of many circulated in the media after the attack. Plourde released a statement Monday saying, “It’s been said that I helped to save her life, but the truth is Victoria saved my life after the marathon as her love, support and friendship helped myself and my family deal with the acts of 4/15/13. Our thoughts and prayers to out to the McGrath and Perez Torres families as they deal with this unimaginable tragedy. #BostonStrong.”
