A new report from Allstate Insurance ranks Worcester drivers as the worst drivers in the nation, followed by Boston.
Allstate on Tuesday released the review, which examined 200 U.S. cities and described Worcester as the most dangerous city for drivers.
The annual report tabulates property damage collision frequency of Allstate insured drivers from 2011 to 2012 and aims to boost the nation’s awareness of the importance of being safe and attentive behind the wheel.
Former Worcester Mayor Konnie Lukes told WBZ Boston that poor driving is a problem that’s plagued the city more and more in recent years.
“In the last few years, I would say five years, it’s accelerated,” said Lukes. “Rudeness has accelerated. I’ve noticed it. Rudeness and discourtesy have become routine.”
Lukes also pointed to Worcester pedestrian’s etiquette as contributing to the problem.
The report estimated that the average Boston driver will get into an accident about once every four years.
Overall, New England didn’t exactly excel in the study.
Springfield came in as the fourth worst and Providence, RI ranked as the sixth worst in the nation. The best cities for driving were Fort Collins, CO, Brownsville, TX and Boise, ID.
