Once again, Adrien Broner is making troubling headlines for something outside of the ring. TMZ Sportsreported Tuesday that the controversial boxer is being sued for sexual battery by a woman who claims he groped her genitals at a Georgia mall back in February. Kalia Crews alleges that she was walking around the Lenox Square shopping center two months ago, when Broner “swiped his hand across [her] private parts,” according to part of the lawsuit obtained by TMZ.
The lawsuit additionally adds that: “At no point had Plaintiff given [Broner] permission to touch any part of her body.”
Crews claims that she suffered emotional distress from the alleged incident and wants Broner to be responsible for shelling out the cash to cover her pain and suffering. That being said, the amount she’s suing the boxer for wasn’t reported.
And that’s just the civil case, as TMZ says evidence is still being collected by investigators in the criminal case against the boxer. The news about the lawsuit doesn’t seem to be fazing Broner much, though, as he maintained, via his Instagram account, that he’s focused on his upcoming bout against Jessie Vargas at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on April 21
When the alleged February incident took place, TMZ Sports posted disturbing footage of Broner being handcuffed by police officers and arrested for misdemeanor sexual battery. That was before he was booked into Atlanta’s Fulton County Jail, where he was later released on bail.
Broner, 28, has been arrested and locked behind bars several times with a rap sheet including robbery, gun possession, assault, public intoxication and domestic violence, as reported by ESPN. Broner (33-3 with 24 Knockouts) is a former four-division world titleholder, coming off a a unanimous decision loss to Mikey Garcia last July.
