A Brooklyn man drown off the shores of Long Beach on Monday evening, according to media reports.
Long Beach police were called at about 6:30 p.m. about an unconscious man near Edwards Boulevard, PIX 11 New York reported. The man and his friend were swimming in an area without life guards at about 6 p.m., police said, Patch reported. The two were pulled out of the water by Riverside drive and rushed to Long Beach Emergency Room. The 26-year-old man died. His friend was not injured, according to reports.
The deceased has not yet been identified pending family notification.
A high rip current risk was in effect on Long Island at the time and will remain high for all South Shore Beaches on Long Island and Southern Queens through Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service reported. This story is developing.
