Calvin Broadus, son of Snoop Dogg, to transfer to USC from UCLA (Instagram pics)?

Color me skeptical, but it’s hard to believe that Calvin Broadus -who was the star receiver for the No. 1 ranked team in high school football last year – quit football for lifejust because he wants to suddenly focus on making movies.

Snoop Dogg’s son was expected to compete for a starting receiver position with UCLA but stunned many by announcing last week that he was going to “pursue other passions.”Adding the strangeness of the story, UCLA head coach Jim Mora bowed down to Broadus on his way out the door and even plugged his company, “Film School Productions.”

“Cordell is an amazing young man with many talents and we wish him nothing but the best as he continues to pursue his degree,” Mora said.

Broadus spent much of last fall and the early part of this year teasing which school he was going to pick on Twitter. He had been linked to Notre Dame, LSU, Florida State, Tennessee, UCLA, Baylor, Duke and Arizona State, of late.

“The other schools I’m most interested in are TCU, West Virginia and Oregon State,” Broadus said. “I think I will visit all of those schools after my season is over. Those schools are showing me a lot of love along with ASU. I want to learn as much as I can and then make my decision.”

USC, which had long been Snoop’s favorite school to root for, was not on his radar at the time. But there is one piece of social media fodderthat got me thinking as the situation moves forward. Broadus was once a serial tweeter but suddenly stopped on May 21 of this year. His second-to-last retweetwas this, via his dad:

It’s a picture of Snoop with what appears to be a Reggie Bush jersey on (see picabove – along with a gallery of other Broadus football related pics). Things that make you go hmmmmm.

That type of transfer would certainly escalate the USC – UCLA turf war that’s already in place.
