If you bought too much Halloween candy this year, you might be wondering if you can return Halloween candy to stores after Halloween to get your money back?
Most stores’ official return policies don’t specify seasonal products such as Halloween candy but offer non-descript limitations on returns. In other words, if you bought 20 bags of Halloween candy and wanted to return them all – it might become a hassle. Here is what CVS’ return policy states:
“We reserve the right to limit or refuse any refund or exchange. All returns or exchanges are subject to a third-party verification process … Most unopened items in new condition purchased from a CVS Pharmacy store or on CVS.com can be returned to any CVS Pharmacy store within 60 days of purchase for exchange or refund subject to the restrictions and requirements [valid photo ID etc]. For faster return processing, please bring your receipt or packing slip, the credit card used to make your purchase and a valid photo ID.”
Here is Walgreen’s in-store return policy.
“Items purchased at Walgreens may be returned to any of our stores within 30 days of purchase for exchange or refund. With original receipt, items will be returned for the full purchase price and refunds will be issued in the original method of payment. Without original receipt, items will be returned at the lowest advertised price and refunds will be issued as store credit to a W card. For any return, you will be asked for valid photo identification. We reserve the right to limit or refuse a refund. Gift cards, pre-paid cards and phone cards cannot be returned or exchanged (except where required by law).”
After reviewing most company return policies (including grocery stores in the United States), you CAN, in fact, return Halloween candy after Halloween. If you can get past the stink-eye you get from the clerk, you’ll likely get your money back.
