Carey Mulligan welcomes first Mumford son — or daughter

Carey Mulligan popped back into the public eye this week at the London Film Festival debut of her new film, “Suffragette,” and she brought along with her some joyous news. “Carey has given birth to a healthy and happy baby,” a source tells E! News. “She is just enjoying this time with her family and close friends.” Well, and standing awkwardly with Meryl Streep on a red carpet, but still.

Mulligan and husband Marcus Mumford — of Mumford and Sons fame — married in 2012 and first confirmed they were expecting back in June when her appearance at the Tonys made it impossible to hide the news. She had to sit out the world premiere of “Suffragette” at the Telluride Film Festival in late September because she was about to give birth, if you want to try to pinpoint the exact date of delivery. Which is weird, why would you do that?

Anyway, no word yet on the gender, mostly because they don’t want us to go with the obvious headlines. Well, we certainly showed them, didn’t we?
