June third is the official date of the Queens Pride Parade and Festival in Queens, New York. In connection with this special day, the Queens Public Library will be hosting two full days of events honoring the LGBTQ community. First, on the day before — June second — at the Glen Oaks branch and on the official day — June third — at the library’s Jackson Heights branch. Each day will have unique events for each location, so if you can you should try to swing by both locations to get in on the festivities. Here are the events that will be taking place during the Queens Public Library’s LGBTQ Pride celebration.

Glen Oaks Queens Public Library – June 2nd
The Glen Oaks library will be kicking things off with an “Inclusive Storytime” for children and their families no matter what their definition of “family” means from 10:30-11am. Next, there will be an LGBTQ themed coloring party from 11am to noon. Then there will be a special screening of the 2002 film The Hours starring Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore hosted by Dr. EK Tan. From 2:30-4:30pm, the library will be hosting a VR experience like no other, as guests will be able to plug into different Pride Parades from all around the world. To close out the night, there will be a collaborative LGBTQ collage project to create art based on gay pride and protest posters from history. For this activity, you will have to register in advance so make sure you call 718-831-8636 to reserve your spot. There will also be art from LGBTQ artists on display throughout the library all day.
Jackson Heights Queens Public Library – June 3rd
As the parade kicks off at 12pm on June 3rd, make sure to check out all of the events taking place at the Jackson Heights Queens Public Library throughout the day. The library will begin by with a “Rainbow Story Time” at 11:30am followed closely by an hour of “Rainbow Crafts for Kids”. From 3-4pm there will be a “Drag Queen Story Hour” that will help bring social acceptance and awareness to young children through songs, crafts and stories. Attendees will be able to enjoy their Pride Parades from all over the globe all day from 11:30-5pm and will also be able to partake in the “Queens Memory” project which will give you the chance to be interviewed for the library’s permanent collection of LGBTQ themed memories. There will also be the “Lavender Line Mini-Exhibit: A Photo History of the Queens Pride Parade” on display for visitors all day long.
