A $31 million rehabilitation of the Dyckman Street 1 subway train station in upper Manhattan was marked by a ceremony with community leaders and Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials Thursday.
The two-year rehab project includes a new high-tech elevator from the station mezzanine to the southbound platform.
“We have been able to fully rehabilitate this historic station improving the structural aspects and customer amenities while retaining the unique architectural features that have made this station so visually special,” NYC Transit President Carmen Bianco said in a statement.
The rehabilitation was completed in November. As part of the project, structural steel repairs, waterproofing and tack replacement were completed. New concrete platforms, canopies and a refurbished control area are also part of the rehab.
Some historical finishes to the new control area include wood frame windows, mosaic and granite floor tiling.
The new elevator, with a machine room-less system, is energy-efficient and the first of its kind in the New York City Transit system.
