WTF is wrong with Chris Brown?
The singer, who has a sordid history of violence, allegedly punched photographer Bennie L. Vines at a nightclub in Tampa, Florida. According to E! News, Brown and his crew were noticeably riled up before the incident. Per the Tampa Police Department, Vines reported Brown sucker punched him for allegedly taking photos — but left the scene by the time officers arrived. Vines suffered a busted lip, and although he refused medical attention, he plans to take legal action.
This kind of behavior is pretty standard for the 27-year-old singer. Let’s talk about all the abuse allegations and physical altercations Mr. Brown has been involved with, shall we?
In 2014, he punched a fan who tried to get a picture with him. Last summer, he was investigated for assault with a deadly weapon, and his manager sued him for assault and battery. And in 2009 he assaulted his then-girlfriend, Rihanna. Earlier this year, his most recent ex-girlfriend, Karreuche Tran, filed a restraining order against him. There is very much a pattern of behavior here, so why do we keep ignoring it?
In 2014, Brown admitted to MTV News that he deals with a lot of anger issues. “I think it’s all about the choices you make,” he told host Sway Calloway. “With me, I deal with a lot of anger issues from my past – not knowing how to express myself verbally and at the same time not knowing how to cope with my emotions and deal with them and understand what they are. Every situation is different but it’s all about the choices you make and how you control your anger,” he said (and apparently later forgot). “[Anger is] not supposed to stay there; you’re not supposed to keep it inside because it’ll bottle up and you’ll become a monster.”
A monster, huh? Well, at least Brown knows what he is. May the singer grow up and get help — hopefully before someone else becomes his next, unwilling victim.
