Want to get muscular? Shredded to perfection? Have a super-human like appearance? Who doesn’t? Well, chiseled Thor actor dished on some Chris Hemsworth workout tips with Men’s Health this week — in case you’ve been wondering how he gets ready for those silver screen roles.
Spoiler alert: Weightlifting alone isn’t gonna cut it. Discussing the newest theater appearance of Thor, Hemsworth says he expanded his workout routine to include “a lot of other sorts of movement, flexibility and functional training.” After all, when you’re playing a superhero in an action-packed blockbuster, size is only part of the equation. “Bulk is nice, but being more agile is definitely important,” the actor added.
The Chris Hemsworth workout
Hemsworth credits his Thor physique to Foundation Training, focus on his core and strength training being a hallmark of his exercise mix. “I’ll do a ton of boxing or Muay Thai workouts. I surf a ton and I do a lot of yoga, too,” he adds. To keep his workouts effective and his motivation high, he prioritizes mixing up his workouts in order to target different parts of his body with different types and patterns of movement. He shared one example from his own workout regimen, suggesting that readers try adding in some box jumps between sets on arm day. We’re tired simply reading that, but apparently that’s what it takes to be a superhero.
Though muscle confusion, the thinking behind workout regimens that mix up the exercises and movement patterns, is a hotly-debated topic in the fitness community, it’s clearly working for Hemsworth. Whether or not it helps chisel away the remaining chub is up for debate, but this type of workout is worth a try if you’re easily bored in the gym.
For extra motivation, follow Chris Hemsworth on Instagram to get glimpses into his workout routines and soak up plenty of angles of his shredded physique (and yes, there are plenty of epic beach shots that inspire serious jealousy, too). If that’s not motivation to hit the gym, we don’t know what is.
