The No. 6 Quinnipiac Bobcats host the Holy Cross Crusaders in a non-conference game tonight at 7 p.m. ET at the People’s United Center. The Bobcats are 10-1-0 in non-conference games this season meanwhile the Crusaders are winless going just 0-4-1.
Quinnipiac is 17-5-1 overall and 7-4-1 in conference games this season. The Bobcats are coming off a 4-3 win in their last contest against Boston University this past Saturday, Jan. 19.
Senior defensemen Brandon Fortunato played a huge role in their win over Boston University. He scored two goals against his former team. His second goal was the game-winning goal with just 2.5 seconds left in regulation. He also handed out an assist and recorded three points in the contest.
It was announced Monday that Fortunato was last week’s Eastern College Athletic Conference Hockey Player of the Week.
The Bobcats lead the ECAC in a multitude of categories; they are first in save percentage with .932, first in penalty kill with a success rate of 86.1%, and they are also first in goals per game with 3.70. Quinnipiac’s goals per game average have them ranked fourth overall in the nation.
Holy Cross is having a disappointing season, to say the least. They are 4-14-3 overall which includes a 4-10-2 conference record this season. The Crusaders are coming off back-to-back losses against American International.
A major weakness for Holy Cross this season is their power play, they score on just 19.7% of their opportunities. The Crusaders will have one advantage tonight; they do particularly well on faceoffs. Holy Cross wins 49.9% of their faceoffs which will be crucial tonight against a really good Quinnipiac squad.
