AC Milan hosts Napoli today at 2:40 p.m. ET at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza for the second time in four days. Today they will compete in the quarterfinals of the Coppa Italia.
Milan and Napoli faced off on Jan. 26 in Sereia A action which resulted in a 0-0 draw. Newly acquired forward Krzysztof Piatek made his Milan debut and Napoli’s midfielder Fabián Ruiz received a red card in the match.
AC Milan is 9-8-4 with 35 points and is fourth in the Italian Serie A standings. The Serie A table is in a tight race; Nos. 4-through-8 are separated by just three points. At the end of the season, the top four teams in the league get their ticket punched to the Champions League.
Milan’s last Coppa Italia match was back on Jan. 12 in the Round of 16 where they beat Sampdoria 2-0. Forward, Patrick Cutrone scored both goals in the 102nd and 108th minute of action.
Napoli is second in the Italian Serie A standings with a 15-3-3 record along with 48 points. They are 11 points back of first place Juventus. Juventus is having a remarkable campaign and has yet to lose a game in their first season since acquiring star forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
Napoli beat Sassuolo 2-0 in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 back on Jan. 13. Arkadiusz Milik and Ruiz scored for Napoli in the 15th and 74th minute of the match. Milik leads the team with 11 goals on the season.
