Fantasy sports fans in New York got a good piece of news from the state’s gambling commission Monday afternoon when thebody announced it was temporarily handing permits to five daily fantasy sites to operate once again. These areDraftKings, FanDuel, Yahoo, FantasyDraft and Draft. “As the newly enacted law requires, the commission regulates all aspects of interactive fantasy sports, including ensuring the operators put important consumer protections in place,” said commission executive director Robert Williams. “While the commission continues work on formal regulations for these games, these temporary permits get companies up and running in New York state while assuring resident players that safeguards are in place.” The state will continue to monitor and investigate whether the consumer safeguards on the industry are appropriate, but in the meantime — just in time for football season — things will resume as normal for New Yorkers. Many other states are deliberating making the industry legal, including Virginia which in Marchbecame the first state where a legislature passed a bill that was also signed by the governor granting permits.
