Warning: There are some SPOILERS ahead for Game Of Thrones season 7. So if you’re still lagging behind on the hit HBO show then you probably shouldn’t read ahead. Instead, go back and catch-up, then head back and take a look.
“Game Of Thrones” fans are so accustomed to being shocked and devastated by the plot twists that the show has doled out over its seven season run that they are now predisposed to immediately start imagining the worst.
That’s why the beautiful reunion between Arya and Sansa Stark in season 7’s The Spoils Of War was so short-lived, because over the course of the next three episodes we saw their relationship deteriorate to such an extent that viewers were left wondering whether one of the duo might actually kill the other.
It turns out that Maisie Williams, who has played Arya Stark throughout the show’s run, had the exact same thoughts when she initially read through the script, too.
Williams recently made this revelation to me over the phone, admitting that she briefly believed that her needle wielding heroine might decide to kill Sophie Turner’s character.
“I did for a minute. I don’t know, but you just read on. You just keep going. You can’t stop. I guess the difference is that when you read the script you don’t get the same suspense, because you can just pick up the next one. There is a little suspense, but it’s not the same.”
But while Maisie Williams confessed that she was momentarily convinced that Arya might go through with what would have surely been the most devastating scene in “Game Of Thrones” history, she quickly imagined the furious reaction from fans, which helped to quash her concerns.
“I guess for a minute I thought, ‘Maybe’,” Williams continued. “But then I also thought that would be awful and there would be uproar.”
Ultimately Sansa and Arya, with the help of Bran, came together to bring down the conniving Lord Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish (Aidan Gillen). Arya was even the one that sliced his throat.
That means that we can expect the sisters to be working together throughout the eighth and final season of “Game Of Thrones,” especially as the duo ended the finale by saying they are strongest as a team.
Unfortunately, we have around a year to wait before we find out what that actually entails, because “Game Of Thrones” won’t return until 2019.
