Bill Simmons is no longer at ESPN, but the network continues to crank out solid “30 for 30” sports documentaries (Simmons was an executive producer of the series). Mark your calendars for this one – “Doc & Darryl,” which will explore the troubled lives and careers of former Mets stars Doc Gooden and Darryl Strawberry, will premier on ESPN on July 14 at 9 p.m.. Gooden admitted a few years back that he was doing coke in a sketchy Long Island apartment during the Mets’ 1986 championship parade and was too paranoid to be there and Strawberry’s drug issues are also well-documented. Should be fascinating.
ESPN also announced this week that they will be doing a “30 for 30” on Kentucky head coach John Calipari.
