WARNING: There are quite clearly SPOILERS ahead for Justice League. So if you haven’t seen the film yet then you should proceed very, very cautiously. Or just click here and read my review instead.
As just the fifth film in the burgeoning DC Extended Universe “Justice League” was always going to save some room to foreshadow its future installments.
It does just that throughout the film itself, as our first proper introductions to Cyborg, Aquaman, and The Flash tease their back-stories, which will be explored in more depth when their solo movies are released. But, as Marvel has long proved, the best way to tease looming storylines is with a post-credits sequence.
That’s exactly why “Justice League” has two of them, and you can find out what’s in each of them by looking below.
“Justice League” post-credits scene #1
During “Justice League’s” bombastic finale Henry Cavill’s resurrected Superman manages to keep up with Ezra Miller’s Flash as they try to get civilians away from danger. Clearly intrigued by who is the fastest out of the two of them, Superman and Flash decide to race each other from one coast of America to the other.
Just to prove how light “Justice League” is, Superman doesn’t just joke that if he wins Flash is off the team, but he even says that Flash has to buy him brunch, which is a reference to a conversation between Flash and Batman from earlier in the film.
Sadly we don’t get to see who wins, but it at least proves that Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent are so close they reveal intimate tidbits from their conversations to each other.
Who knew that your mothers having the same first name could form such a tight bond?
“Justice League” post-credits scene #2
OK, so this one is definitely a big deal, especially because it is basically a 1 minute, two-scene short film that teases an even more tantalizing blockbuster.
The scene in questions opens up in Arkham Asylum with a security guard yelling at Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) in a straight jacket and telling him to turn around. Luthor doesn’t respond, and it is eventually revealed that he has escaped.
We cut to a pier and an extravagant yacht, where a fully suited and booted Luthor sits and drinks. A speedboat pulls up to his yacht, off of which steps Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello). Luthor refers to him as Mr. Wilson, before then insisting that because the Justice League has formed they should have their own evil posse, too.
Of course, last year’s “Suicide Squad” already introduced us to Joker (Jared Leto), Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and Boomerang (Jai Courtney), while Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) and Black Manta have already been confirmed for the DCEU, too, so Luthor has plenty of options.
Now let’s just hope that the DC Extended Universe is given the chance to expand and we can see the above foreshadowing blossom into something special.
