Donald Trump Jr comes to daddy’s rescue, gets trolled by Jimmy Kimmel

Both Trump boys, Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump, are familiar with jumping into the fight for dear old dad. They just prefer different methods: Eric takes to the air waves and Donnie takes after Donald, resorting to Trump Twitter tactics.

Eric briefly garnered attention for himself as Trump family defender on a Fox News segment with Sean Hannity in which he claimed “the people of this country love” Trump but that Republicans weren’t fighting for him like they should. And Donnie just couldn’t help himself when Jon Hamm shared the story of meeting Donald and Bill O’Reilly at an SNL party. He’s also been know to retweet memes against CNN, even directly following his dad sparking controversy for doing just that.

But it seems like the most recent incident of Donald Trump Jr stepping in for Donald pitted him against the person that might be able to put an end to his Twitter trolling ways: Jimmy Kimmel.

It all started when Donald Trump took a jab at late night hosts on Twitter Saturday night, writing “Late Night host are dealing with the Democrats for their very ‘unfunny’ & repetitive material, always anti-Trump! Should we get Equal Time?” Many late-night monologues, especially from Jimmy Kimmel, have revolved around the Affordable Care Act, likely what set Trump’s fingers flying over the keyboard on Twitter.

But when Kimmel shot back a quip about Trump resigning, Donnie came running in to fight his dad’s 140-character battle.

In a clear miscalculation, Donald Trump Jr pivoted the conversation to the sexual harassment allegations against Harvey Weinstein that resulted in the executive and producer being fired from The Weinstein Company, which he co-founded.

Kimmel’s response was pretty tame. Since The New York Times was the publication that broke the story, and Donald and Donnie Jr have both been outspoken in bashing the publication, Kimmel took their own words on the subject and turned them into a response for Donnie. He referred to the Times as “failing, liberal, one-sided” in his response.

It’s unclear whether Donald Trump Jr. picked up on the parroting of his own language in Kimmel’s response, tweeting another stab at the late-night host, “I look forward to your monologues next week. You’re probably due for a change if only for a moment or two.”

And that’s when Jimmy Kimmel lost his chill. His response was the short and sweet six word: “great – in the meantime, enjoy this!” But it was what he attached that ended the conversation. Embedded in this tiny tweet was a link to a recording of the Access Hollywood tapes in which President Trump brags to Billy Bush about sexually harassing women and utters his now-infamous line “grab ‘em by the p*ssy.”

Obviously, the burn jokes flew fast and furious on the Twittersphere in response. But we think Twitter user @MollyJongFast summarized the Trump family tactic for dealing with online criticism the best with her equally short response: “Tell me when he blocks you.”
