A man who was fatally struck in the Bronx by a hit-and-run driver had just exited a taxi cab as it was making a left turn.

Around 10 p.m. on Tuesday night near the corner of Jerome Avenue and Macombs Road in Highbridge, police responded to an apparently intoxicated 35-year-old victim who was lying in the road whena white sedan hit and killed him, Pix11 reported. The car fled the scene.

Investigators have now determined that the victim, Jorge Zepeda, 35, fell into the street as he tried to exit a livery cab while it was making a left turn, the New York Daily News reported. After he fell out, the hit-and-run driver struck him.

Officials did not charge the cab driver, who remained at the location, according to the Daily News, which added that the hit-and-run driver remained at large on Thursday.

Also on Thursday, police reported that the hit-and-run vehicle was believed to be a White Chevy Impala with New York plates and possibly with black lettering on the driver’s door.
