Edwin Alemany, the accused killer of Amy Lorde, attempted suicide in his cell at the Suffolk County jail over the weekend, according to his attorney.

According to the Boston Globe, Alemany attempted to hang himself. Alemany has attempted to harm himself other times, including before making his first appearance in South Boston Municipal Court in 2013. Alemany, 30, is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, armed carjacking, two counts of armed robbery, two counts of armed robbery while masked, armed assault with intent to rape, stealing by confining, roarson of a motor vehicle in connection to the Wilbram native’s murder.

Prosecutors alleged that Alemany forced Lord into a car at knifepoint near her apartment in the early morning hours of July 23, 2013 then forcing her to make withdrawals from two ATMs. She was then forced to drive to Stony Brook Reservation, investigators claim, where a jogger found her remains.

His attorney said he will pursue an insanity defense.
