Emergency drill at World Trade Center changes commutes for PATH and subway service

If you notice some extra emergency vehicles outside the World Trade Center this week, don’t worry.

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey is conducting emergency response exercises, according to officials.

The first drill, the smaller of the two, will take place on Wednesday, between 8 a.m. and noon. The large-scale exercise will take place at the World Trade Center Trade Center Transportation Hub Oculus, from 11 p.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. on Sunday.

The World Trade Center PATH Station will be open during the drills, but weekend PATH riders will be directed to and from street level through the West Concourse and One World Trade Center, according to Port Authority.

The Oculus and the MTA subway lines at the Fulton Transit Center via the Dey Street Concourse will be inaccessible to PATH riders during the weekend exercise. The Port Authority said it will provide personnel to help passengers navigate.

The nature of the emergency response scenario is yet unknown. “The scenario is never put out in advance since they try to make this as real life as possible for the responders,” a spokesman for Port Authority told Metro.
