We have seen many actors take on the role of Batman in the past; Adam West, Michael Keaton, George Clooney, Val Kilmer, Kevin Conroy, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck have all had a chance to put on the cape and portray the Dark Knight. But now, the torch is being passed yet again. Affleck who most recently took on the role of the caped crusader revealed that he will not be playing Bruce Wayne in the 2021 film The Batman. Who is going to be the new Batman?
Who is going to be the new Batman?
It seems that Bruce Wayne is going to lose a few years- the new Batman movie will feature a younger version of the hero. Not as young as Bruce Wayne on the hit TV show Gotham, but younger than Affleck. The 46-year-old actor was slated to star in and direct the new film but scheduling proved to be an issue and Affleck passed the directing torch on to Matt Reeves in 2017. “It has become clear that I cannot do both jobs to the level they require,” Affleck said at the time.
Now, Affleck has passed on the film altogether and many DC Comic fans are wondering who will be taking on the role of Gotham’s savior.
So who is going to be the new Batman? Unfortunately, the man behind the mask has not yet been revealed. But there are plenty of rumors swirling around guessing who the new Batman might be (Jake Gyllenhaal, Armie Hammer, Ben Barnes, Dacre Mongomery, Michael B. Jordan and Riz Ahmed just to name a few).
Reeves hasn’t commented on casting but he has talked a bit about what he plans to do with the new film. “It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation,” Reeves told THR.
Affleck also recently tweeted his support for Reeves and the new Batman film.
