Jake Gyllenhaal is one of the finest actors of his generation. In fact, following Leonardo DiCaprio’s win for “The Revenant,” he is probably the best thespian to have never won an Academy Award.
David Gordon Green recently had the chance to see the “Nightcrawler,” “Zodiac” and “End Of Watch” actor work his magic on “Stronger.” While Green’s appreciation of Gyllenhaal grew exponentially while they worked together, he had the time to devise a theory as to why Gyllenhaal is such a superb actor, one that he recently shared with Metro.
“One of the beautiful things about Jake is that he does one project at a time, and he really gives 100% of his time to it. He’s not multitasking. He’s not juggling kids at home, and racing home to relieve the babysitter. He’s there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,” the director commented.
According to Green, Gyllenhaal’s lack of children really frees up his time to focus on his work. “Every day when we wrap we are talking about the next scene in his apartment. Every weekend we are rehearsing. We are in Boston getting to know the subjects, he’s got 600 pages of research. The thoroughness and confidence he gives a director is relentless, because he doesn’t stop. It is inspiring.”
The fact that Jake Gyllenhaal doesn’t have any children has been playing on the actor’s mind quite a lot over the last few weeks, too. During his recent interview with People, Gyllenhaal admitted that he is pining to start a family of his own.
“I want to continue becoming more of an adult than I already am. Hopefully with a family of my own,” Gyllenhaal confessed, before then admitting that he has been spending plenty of time with his sister Maggie’s two daughters to get some practice. Back in 2015, Gyllenhaal also told Entertainment Tonight, “I am not a father yet, but it is definitely a dream of mine, should I be lucky to have that to happen.”
If Gyllenhaal is lucky enough for such a blessed event to occur, it will really put David Gordon Green’s theory to the test. In the meantime, you can appreciate Gyllenhaal’s acting brilliance by watching “Stronger,” as it is now in cinemas across the US.
