Eva Moskowitz will not challenge de Blasio in 2017

One of the mayor’s biggest critics and political rivals has no plans to run against Bill de Blasio when he comes up for re-election.

Eva Moskowitz, a former Manhattan city councilwoman and founder of the Success Academy charter school network, gathered reporters at the steps of City Hall on Thursday to say she’s staying put with education.

Although she won’t run for mayor against an incumbant,she admitted “politics is a pretty unpredictable thing.”

In August, Moskowitz floated the idea of a campaign during a radio interview admitting it was an interest. She told reporters Thursday the door is open for a possible run in 2021.

Instead of vying for the mayoralty in 2017, Moskowitz told reporters she’d rather do to education what Apple did for technology.

“I’m willing to try and fail,” she said. “I’m not willing to not try to re-imagine education.”

Moskowitz did, however, take the opportunity to knock down the de Blasio administration’s universal pre-kindergarten policies, arguing it was about quality and not quantity.

On Wednesday, hundreds of parents, students and teachers affiliated with charter schools protested against the de Blasio administration and accused the Department of Education of promoting racial inequality in education.

“Our vision for the New York City public schools is that every school is going to be brought up to the point of excellence,” de Blasio said on Wednesday.
