Father, daughter arrested for attack on off-duty MBTA police officer

Boston authorities said a father and his daughter were arrested Friday for the “violent” attack of an off-duty MBTA transit officer.

The off-duty officer, who was not identified, heard a disturbance on a train car at Community College station as he wastraveling on an outbound Orange Line train around 11:45 p.m., police said.

He heard another MBTA official yelling, “Get off the train, get off the train,” and then saw a man and woman exit the train.

The woman, who was later identified as Madison Muse, 22, of Saugus, yelled racial slurs and expletives as she walked along the platform, officials said. The off-duty officer began to record Muse’s behavior. When Muse realized she was being recorded, she “violently” attacked the officer and her father, David Muse, 48, also of Saugus, joined in, according to the report.

The fight was broken up on the platform, but Madison Muse hurled multiple racial slurs at the officer, and the father-daughter duo physically prevented the officer from using a call box in the station to contact transit police for backup, police said. The officer’s phone had fallen out during the fight.

“They punched and kicked the off duty officer several times,” transit police said in a statement.

Another MBTA employee was able to call for help, and the man and woman were both arrested.

After he was arrested, it was discovered David Muse had an outstanding warrant for his arrest issued from Somerville District Court for alleged drunk driving, and operating with a suspended license.
