Flyers looking to get back in the win column against the Canucks as Michkov makes home debut

The Philadelphia Flyers are getting ready for puck drop on home ice after a four-game road trip out west. The Flyers finished the road trip 1-2-1 which wasn’t as bad as it seemed due to those late-game goals. Tonight, Philadelphia is hosting the one team that they beat out west, the Vancouver Canucks. The Flyers defeated the Canucks in a shootout win with Morgan Frost being the game-winning scorer. They now look to get back in the win column despite gaining a point in overtime against the Edmonton Oilers.

Flyers preparing to face Canucks in home opener

Matvei Michkov was able to get himself four points with two goals and two assists after four games. With all of Philadelphia getting ready to see the rookie in action, there is no doubt that Michkov will be the main star of the home opener. Flyers hockey has suffered a little over the years, but now boasting a player who has the potential to be a real star in the NHL, all eyes are on the orange and black during this 2024-2025 season.

Ahead of tonight’s game, defenseman Jamie Drysdale spoke about the road trip. Jamie was able to get one goal against the Kraken, a game which the Flyers ended up losing. He mentioned that he takes each game at a time, and shared that bench boss John Tortorella wants him to “make a decision and go with it.”

This is something that the head coach said about Drysdale during training camp, that he feels like he has these powerful legs and speed that he needs to figure out how to utilize his decision-making. Drysdale’s been skating better within the first slate of games, however, there are times when you can tell he’s hesitating slightly, which he needs to work on.

Philadelphia is going with all the same lines and pairings from the Seattle game except for Sam Ersson who will get the start in net. This comes with no surprise with how the last game went with Ivan Fedotov, but hopefully, both goalies can be utilized once more confidence is gained.
