For generations, items like roses, chocolate and jewelry have been go-to Valentine’s Day gifts for Americans across the country.
But a new survey commissioned by the jewelry research chain WP Diamonds provides a revealing look at what couples really want this holiday weekend.
It turns out that under 20 percent of Americans say material gifts are the most important part of Valentine’s Day. Instead, the vast majority (86 percent) of those questioned said they valued romance, sex and passion. It also looks like Americans today are increasingly valuing having great experiences over receiving nice things. A romantic evening out on the town was the top choice for a gift this Valentine’s Day — even beating out an evening of passionate sex. But the survey did strike one depressing note. People who are ready to move on in their relationships are set to do so immediately. Those who are ready to end things say they would break things off with their partner now, rather than waiting until after the 14th to avoid hurt feelings.
