Forbes confirms you’re paying Johnny Depp too much

Hey Hollywood, Johnny Depp isn’t a great investment. At least that’s what Forbes is trying to everyone with its annual list of the most overpaid actors in Tinsel Town. Depp has earned the dubious honor of a spot on that list for the second year in a row, alongside the likes of Denzel Washington and Will Ferrell. But this year, Depp has moved from No. 2 up to No. 1 on the list, unseating reigning champ Adam Sandler.That’s got to hurt.

While he previously flexed some big box office muscles with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise — which has brought in a total of $3.7 billion — it’s been a minute since the last one, and his other ventures haven’t fared nearly as well. In fact, Forbes estimates that for every dollar Depp is paid, the studio behind the film earns back, on average, $1.20. That’s not the kind of return on investment you want from one of the world’s most famous oddballs.

Of course, there’s yet another “Pirates” film on the way in 2017as well as an “Alice in Wonderland” sequel next year, so here’s hoping he doesn’t find himself in this spot for a third time.
