Geek Girl in Hollywood: The moral dilemma in ‘Daredevil’ Season 2

When you lose your moral code, are you still a superhero? Even if you think what you’re doing is right? Is it OK for Batman to use a gun in the “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” trailer? Is Superman a villain because he’s killed someone? We just got a new trailer for “Daredevil” Season 2, and that’s exactly what we’re looking at.

Hell’s Kitchen isn’t exactly a safe place to live and Matt Murdoch (Charlie Cox) has been keeping it safe with fists and violence. However, he still has a moral code. Enter Punisher (Jon Bernthal), who’s lost his family through violence and is ready to destroy anything in his path to take the bad guys down.

In the trailer, he calls Daredevil someone who can’t finish the job. Between his words, the fact Claire (Rosario Dawson) believes the city needs him, Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) telling him that they helped create the bad guys and Foggy (Elden Hensen) who doesn’t think any of this is right, our fair hero is going to be pretty conflicted this time around.

Watching heroes struggle with moral dilemmas like this is one of the main reasons many of us love their stories. We’re all haunted by the same questions. Is it worth punching the guy who cut us off in traffic or will a simple middle finger do? Is it worth saying something horrible to the person who almost hit you as you were walking across the street or will it make things worse? Will they learn a lesson and not do it again? Should you send that secret info about someone out to the company after he slept with your wife or does that make you worse than he is? Would it make him feel bad enough to never do it to someone else? Is it (and forgive the tiny toe dipped into politics here) a positive catharsis to watch someone spew the hate that you’ve sometimes had in secret thoughts or is it going to damage the world in ways we can’t begin to understand?

All heroes struggle with how far to go and what path is justified. Sometimes watching them do it on a large scale makes it easier for us to work out our own decisions. They get to do it in far cooler outfits, though.
