A good place to start touring East Meadow is at its heart, where the 930-acre Eisenhower Park — one of the largest public spaces in the NY metropolitan area — sits surrounded by high-end residential homes and businesses. There are several attractions, especially to the west, just minutes away. These include the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, home of the New York Islanders and many events, as well as the swank Roosevelt Field Mall.
But the park itself is the main East Meadow draw and is what keeps Levittown resident Sean Crombie, 23, coming to the area. “It’s expensive to live around here and it’s more of a place for families than the younger crowd,” he says. But people of all ages go to the park for free concerts, its athletic centers and simply to mellow out, he adds.
Perks of the park
Eisenhower Park includes 16 lighted tennis courts, three 18-hole golf courses, dozens of athletic fields and courts, fitness trails and the 80,000-square-foot Nassau County Aquatic Center, which regularly hosts major swimming and diving competitions.
