Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr. says there’s a double standard in NFL

Usually the NFL is the ‘No Fun League’ but when it comes to Ezekiel Elliott’s touchdown celebration this past weekend, they seem alright with the Dallas Cowboys running back’s theatrics. And it is this look the other way attitude from the league that has Odell Beckham Jr. claiming a “double standard” by the NFL.

Elliott jumped into a giant red Salvation Army kettle behind the endzone following a touchdown Sunday, a move that seemingly should have drawn a fine given that the league has taken money from players over the years for less. Beckham, no stranger to the NFL reaching into his wallet, loved Elliott’s celebration and has no ill-will against his divisional rival.

But the New York Giants wide receiver thinks the NFL should allow more of this fun and loosen up a little bit, Beckham drawing no punches in his assessment of how the league handled this situation. And he even mused openly about what would happen if he did something similar.

“First, I was just laughing. I love seeing Zeke out there just having fun. You’re supposed to have fun. He’s out there jumping into whatever it was, the Salvation Army cup. He’s hiding in there and then gets up. I thought it was hilarious. It’s not really a big deal, it’s just the way the world works. There’s double standards everywhere. It’s just how life is. I’m absolutely positive if I would’ve done that, I would’ve been fined,” Beckham said. “It’s whatever. It’s nothing against Zeke. Zeke is my boy. I have a Zeke jersey right there, so there’s no problems with anything like that. You set rules and limitations but you don’t follow them.”

As for on the field, Beckham is alright with how things are playing out for his Giants. They are 10-4, assured of their first winning record since he was drafted in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

And they can potentially clinch a playoff berth this week at the Philadelphia Eagles.

“It’s one game at a time. It’s a good opportunity for us but we really just have to lock in and focus,” Beckham said. “It’s such a short week. We haven’t beat Philly at Philly in two years. I don’t know how long its been. We need to come out and put our best foot forward.”
