Gisele Bündchen is taking a stand against President Donald Trump’s recent decision over trophy hunters who kill elephants in Africa.
The fashion icon and wife of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady took to Instagram on Friday morning to criticize the move, which would allow hunters to bring home elephant tusks and other sought-after parts as trophies. The decision is a reversal of a ban put in place by President Barack Obama in 2014.
The model shared a heartfelt post about why people shouldn’t hunt “harmless animals,” accompanied by a photo of herself playing with a pair of elephants.
“Nothing justifies killing harmless animals to use its parts only as material goods, decoration or even worse as a trophy to satisfy someone’s ego or pride,” Gisele wrote. “If we want a better future, we must take care of the wildlife. When you hurt one species you are hurting them all, including us humans. We are all connected.”
Gisele has been an outspoken advocate for animal rights and recently appeared on the cover of Vogue Paris for an issue dedicated to eco fashion and promoting faux fur.
“So happy that [Vogue Paris] dedicated this issue to animal protection,” Gisele wrote in an Instagram post about the cover. “Sending a strong message that wearing real fur is never an option!”
