The condition of the victims are unknown at this time, as are the circumstances surrounding the death of the gunman.
Updated: June 30, 3:58 p.m.: The gunman who fired shots at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Friday afternoon is a 35-year-old former employee that used an M-16 type rifle, police said, according to the New York Daily News.
ABC7 reported that there are now three confirmed victims, whose conditions are unknown.
The suspect is still at-large.
Original story, June 30, 3:45 p.m.: At least two people have been shot at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital at 1650 Grand Concourse in Morris Heights, officials said.
According to the New York Daily News, the NYPD Special Operations Division confirmed that two victims have been shot in what is being called an “active shooting,” and that there is smoke coming from the 16th floor. The conditions of the victims are not known at this time, and the gunman is still at-large.
The gunman is believed to have barricaded himself on that floor, the Daily News reported, adding that police found a trail of blood leading from the second floor to the eighth.
A hospital staffer told NBC4 that the hospital is under lockdown and NYPD vehicles have blocked streets surrounding the facility. Sources told the station that the gunman was wearing a white lab coat when he opened fire.
According to a tweet from his office, Mayor Bill de Blasio is being briefed on the developing situation.
