A North Carolina college student was shot dead Sunday on the Winston-Salem State University campus, according to reports.

Anthony White, a 19-year-old sophomore at the college, was killed at 1:30 a.m., the Daily Mail reported, and an unidentified female student was also injured. Police on Monday were still scrambling to track down suspected shooter Jarrett Jerome Moore.

“The suspected gunman is not believed to be a current student. The campus has been cleared; the gunman has not been apprehended,” said university spokesman Aaron Singleton in a related CNN article.

Police have not determined a motive or circumstance for the shooting, which occurred as the university was celebrating homecoming weekend, the Daily Mail reported, also stating that visitors to the campus are urged to be cautious and stay away from restricted areas.

White’s Twitter posts paint a picture of an academically minded young man dedicated to carving out a good life for himself, the Daily Mail claimed.

“Alot of [people] doubted me i kno [sic] its killin them to see me in college wen they said i was gon b in jail. Mission is never complete,” he tweeted on the Friday night before his murder, according to the Daily Mail, which included a tweet he posted in August: “1 more year, God please keep trouble from round my way you kno i really want this.”
