‘Hamilton’ ticket scammer gets up to 3 years

A man accused of selling bogus tickets to hit Broadway show “Hamilton” was sentenced this week.

Anthony Huger, 32, was indicted in April for allegedly selling and attempting to sell forged tickets to the Tony award winner for best musical. According to the New York Daily News, Huger was sentenced Tuesday to one to three years in prison for the scam.

Huger advertised the tickets on Craigslistand sold or tried to sell fake tickets three times, according to the Manhattan DA’s office.

He allegedly soldthree forged tickets for $450 toa Westchester couple, who discovered they were phony at the theaterentrancein January.

About a month later, the wife of another victim suspected a pair of $300 tickets were forged, and contacted police. Working with cops, the woman met Huger to buy four more tickets, at which time he was bustedwith those fake tickets and two additional ones, according to prosecutors.

“Scammers pick the hottest tickets in town in order to trap unwitting victims,” District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said. “As a Grammy- and Pulitzer-winning musical that is sold out through January 2017, ‘Hamilton’ fits the bill. I urge theatergoers only to purchase tickets through authorized vendors, and to beware of deals that seem too good to be true.”
